PURPOSE
Honorary membership in the Union of National Employees may be given to a non-member who has demonstrated outstanding service or contributed to our goals and ideals. This may include, but is not limited to, individuals from other unions, social justice organizations, etc.
CRITERIA
- The person nominated for an honorary membership in the Union of National Employees shall be an individual who is otherwise not eligible for regular membership in our union.
- The person nominated for an honorary membership shall have contributed outstanding service through devoted efforts in the affairs of our union.
PROCESS
- Nominations for honorary memberships shall be made by the executive of a Local or the National Executive.
- All applications for an honorary membership shall be referred to the standing committee on education, honours and awards. The standing committee shall review all applications and make appropriate recommendations to the National Executive.
- All decisions in the awarding of honorary memberships shall require a two-thirds majority of the National Executive assembled in a regular meeting and voting by secret ballot.
- An honorary membership may be withdrawn for any act considered prejudicial to the good and welfare of our union.
- Withdrawal of an honorary membership shall require a two-thirds majority vote of the National Executive assembled in regular meeting and voting by secret ballot.
AWARD
The award shall consist of a suitably framed certificate and a gift (a token of appreciation) not to exceed $200.
